Outline of Final Research Achievements |
To disclose peopling in the Japanese archipelago, it is essential to understand genetic characteristics of the Yayoi people, from where they came, what kind of influence they contributed to the population structure of modern Japanese, especially from viewpoints of genomic diversity. However, there have been very limited number of reports on genetic information of the Yayoi people so far. In this project, we did determine complete nucleotide sequences of mitochondrial genome for several human remains excavated from Yayoi archeological sites in northern Kyushu and western Yamaguchi Prefecture. In addition, we have succeeded in obtaining their nuclear genome data with high depth of coverage (more than 30). These precious data can help to clarify what the Yayoi people were.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
