当科喘息・慢性咳嗽外来における2012年4月から2018年3月の初診遷延性・慢性咳嗽患者312例の症例解析で、GERDの頻度と治療抵抗性・難治化への関与（Kanemitsu et al. Clinical impact of gastroesophageal reflux disease in patients with subacute/chronic cough. Allergol Int 2019;68:478-85）、咳受容体感受性亢進の喘息重症化への寄与（Kanemitsu et al. Increased capsaicin sensitivity in severe asthmatics associated with worse clinical outcome. Am J Respir Crit Care Med 2020;201:1068-77）、GERD例の診断における質問票FSSGの有用性（Kurokawa et al. The diagnostic utility of the frequency scale for the symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease questionnaire (FSSG) for patients with subacute/chronic cough. J Asthma 2021;58:1502-11）、GERDの喘息病態への関与（Kurokawa et al. Reflux-related symptoms reflect poor asthma control and the presence of airway neuronal dysfunction. Allergol Int. 2022 Online ahead of print）を報告した。現在初診慢性咳嗽患者の前向き集積（200例の集積を想定）により、候補手法の有用性、妥当性検証を開始している。前向き研究には一般的な病歴、検査項目に加えて血漿サブスタンスP濃度、血清ぺリオスチン値、喀痰・唾液のペプシン濃度、血清グレリン値などのバイオマーカーを組み入れ、測定用のELISAキットなども購入し既に予備的測定を行っている。
