Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
The goal of this project is to bring archival time-series data of M31 (from 1m, 2m, 4m, to 8m telescopes) into a coherent picture, such that it can: 1) provide a unique data-set to study variables and transients at our nearest neighbor, including, but not limited to using M31 as distance anchor, studying the end stage of massive stars (Luminous blue variables), having a census of SNe Ia progenitor through single degenerate channel and 2) serve as a basis to develop algorithms that will be employed in the future time-domain surveys, such as Zwicky Transient Factory and the Large Synoptic Survey Telescope. To realize these goals, we have collected archival time-series data of M31 with significant spatial and temporal coverage, and reduced them using difference imaging analysis, to provide high quality lightcurves down to the detection limit even at the very crowded field of M31. We are at the stage of final quality control, and then we’ll make the light curves public. We have also collected multi-wavelength single epoch images at UV, optical, near and far infrared, which will provide complementary information to the variables and transients. The associated multi-wavelength catalog will also be released with the light curves.
