Research Abstract |
Our project aims at the historical studies of the concept of beauty in western medieval philosophy under the influences of Neoplatonic tradition. We analyze philosophical literature of Plotinus and his descendants and of Christian philosophers, and make clear the aesthetic problems of "beauty." Our aesthetic viewpoints on them are on the identity between beauty and light, the medieval artifacts just as liturgical art, and the metaphysical concept of the transcendence of beauty. So, our project has significances on the historical research of aesthetics and medieval philosophy.
