Research Abstract |
This study explores the conditions surrounding the publication of playbooks in Renaissance England through analysis of how dramatic texts by Shakespeare and his contemporary playwrights came to be published in the 16th and 17th century England. It also investigates how Shakespeare's "original" texts could undergo change before publication by analysing different versions of several of his plays, such as Henry IV, Henry V, and King Lear. This study is carried out as part of a larger project of mine that seeks to explore the regulation and control of English Renaissance drama.
