| Research Abstract |
死刑囚が国王に提出した恩赦嘆願状の収集と検討をつうじて、おもに18世紀前半のロンドンにおける司法行政が、市裁判官の仲介をはさんで、国王および大臣・閣僚と都市参事会の双方によって担われたことを解明した。市参事会は、死刑囚の社会的な環境や治安維持に責任を負っており、都市ロンドンのおかれた状況(戦争の開始と終結や日用品の価格変動)が恩赦の成否を決定した市裁判官の判断に多大な影響を及ぼしたことをあきらかにした。
