| Research Abstract |
明治時代から大正期にかけての日本近代文学の名作には、19世紀のアメリカで、廉価出版された小説から多大な影響を受けた作品が少なからずある。だがそうした作品の多くは、著作権意識が低かった時代から、その原著を明らかにせず、依拠した原作者名も不明となっている。本研究においては、そうした翻訳、あるいは翻案のうちのいくつかを具体的にとりあげ、それらに影響を与えたとされる原書を明らかにし、両者の比較を試みた。
