| Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
In 2019, I have conducted follow up fieldwork in Tokyo, Nagoya, Osaka and Baglung district in Nepal to document both Nepali immigrants in Japan and their families in Nepal. As stated in my research proposal, my research plan was to gain a deeper understanding of the South Asian immigrants in Japan focusing on Nepali cooks’ family migration to Japan. To meet the research goals, I have collected over 200 hours audio-visual data focusing on the immigrant’s daily lives and their networks and processes of adjustment to the host society. Furthermore, I have extended my research to learn about the situation of immigrants’ supporter group in Japan. I could do it because of the well-established network of my host supervisor within immigrants’ community as well as immigrants’ supporter groups. Currently I am logging, reviewing and analyzing ethnographic audio-visual data which I have collected from my fieldwork in Japan and Nepal. I am planning to edit an ethnographic film focusing on immigrant’s supporter group in Nagoya.
Furthermore, with the support from my host supervisor, I also organized a few times ethnographic film screening at universities, schools and community organizations in Japan which were open to students and the general public.

| Strategy for Future Research Activity |
I will continue my visual ethnographic research and collect additional audio-visual data to gain a deeper understanding on the South Asian family migration to Japan and its socio-cultural dynamics in the wider Japanese society. After edit and complete the film, I will collaboration with my host supervisor and hold film screenings at universities, research institutes and community-based organizations in Japan.
