Outline of Annual Research Achievements

２年目である本年度はマラウイ、ザンビア、ジンバブエおよびインドの地質調査を実施し、当該地域の変成岩および火成岩類を採集して、クーンガ造山帯の広範囲について岩石学的・年代学的研究を実施した。まず令和元年7月にマラウイ北部のウベンディアン変成帯とイルマイデ変成帯の調査を行い、多様な基盤岩類を採集した。同年８月に実施したザンビア南西部の地質調査では、多くの変成堆積岩類を採集した。また9月にジンバブエ北西部で実施した調査では、ザンベジ変成帯とマゴンディ変成帯の調査を実施した。室内での岩石処理の結果、これら多様な岩石は主に花崗岩、玄武岩、泥岩を原石とした変成岩であること、変成作用の温度は局所的に800°Cを超える高温の変成岩であること、20億年前、10億年前、および6億年前の３回の造山運動によって形成されたことなどを明らかにした。さらに1月にインド南部の地質調査を行い、当該地域に分布するチャノッカイト（斜方輝石を含む花崗岩質岩）を集中的に研究した。その結果、これら岩石は太古代末期の沈み込みにともなうマグマ活動によって形成され、これは当時存在していたと考えられるウル超大陸の形成に関わっていた可能性があることを指摘した。さらに、すでに採集されたスリランカ、南極およびインドの岩石を用いて、変成作用の継続時間から大陸衝突型造山運動のテクトニクスについて検討し、これら造山運度が5000万年を超える長期間にわたって継続していたことを明らかにした。これはクーンガ造山運動が単純な１回の衝突によって形成されたものではなく、多重衝突にともなう様々な熱の供給によって変成作用が長期にわたって起こったことを意味している。
以上のような研究の成果として、国際雑誌への論文掲載11件、国際学会における研究発表8件、国内学会における研究発表12件がある。

本年度の成果として、国際雑誌への論文掲載(オンライン公表済みを含む)11件、国際学会における研究発表8件、国内学会における研究発表12件があり、順調に成果をあげているため。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

引き続きクーンガ造山帯に相当する南極-インド-スリランカ-アフリカ地域の地質調査および岩石試料採集と、室内実験を並行して行う。特に今後はまだデータの乏しい南部アフリカ地域の研究を集中的に実施するため、ザンビア東部、ジンバブエ北部研究に着手する。これら調査地域から岩石試料を採集し、岩石学的・年代学的研究を行う。ただし、この報告書を作成時点では新型コロナウィルスの影響により海外での地質調査が困難な状態にあるため、計画通りの調査実施が困難と判断された場合には、予算の一部を次年度に繰り越して調査を延長する可能性がある。そのような事態となった場合には、すでに採集済みの 岩石について再度見直しを行い、岩石の成因についてより詳細な研究を実施する。最終年度である2021年度は主に成果公表および論文執筆活動を中心に行う。
