３年目である本年度は、新型コロナウィルスの影響で予定していたザンビアやインドでの野外地質調査および岩石試料の採集を実施できなかった。そのため、すでに採集ずみの南部アフリカおよびインドの変成岩・火成岩類を研究対象として、クーンガ造山帯の広範囲から得られた高度変成岩について、岩石学的・年代学的研究を実施した。また、ボツワナにみられるより古い時代の造山帯や、日本列島にみられる1億年前よりも新しい造山帯の岩石にも研究対象を広げ、クーンガ造山帯との比較を行なった。特にボツワナのリンポポ造山帯の研究結果では、約26億年前のプレート沈み込みにともなうバーモーダルな火成作用を初めて確認した。また、茨城県常陸太田市の西堂平変成岩の研究では、紅柱石-珪線石-藍晶石の複雑な成長組織をもつ泥質片岩について、詳細な組織の観察と鉱物平衡モデリングおよびラマン分光分析法による残存圧力の推定を行った。その結果、白亜紀の高圧変成作用とその後の急激な隆起を確認し、このイベントが白亜紀末の広域的な地殻の圧縮作用に関係していると結論づけた。また、インド・カリムナガール造山帯のサフィリンやスピネルを含む特殊な高度変成岩について岩石学的・年代学的解析を行った。その結果、900℃をこえる超高温変成岩の存在を当該地域から初めて確認し、その形成時期をモナザイトのU-Th-Pb年代測定から約26億年前であると初めて明らかにした。以上のような研究の成果として、国際雑誌への論文掲載11件がある。

| Strategy for Future Research Activity |
引き続きクーンガ造山帯に相当する南極-インド-スリランカ-アフリカ地域の造山運動の温度-圧力条件の解析と、テクトニクスの検討を行う。特に今後はまだデータの乏しい南部アフリカ地域の研究を集中的に実施するため、ザンビア南部の研究に着手する。この地域にみられる6億年前の造山帯であるザンベジ変成帯の地質調査地域および岩石試料の採集を行い、岩石学的・年代学的研究を行う。ただし、この報告書作成時点てでは新型コロナウィルスの影響により、ザンビアは安全レベル３の地域に該当する。したがって、地質調査が困難である可能性もあり、計画通りの調査実施かが困難と判断された場合には、予算の一部をさらに次年度に繰り越して調査を延長する可能性がある。そのような事態となった場合には、すでに採集済みの岩石について再検討を行い、岩石の成因についてより詳細な研究を実施する。2022年度は並行して論文執筆活動を精力的に行う。
