Outline of Annual Research Achievements

高い量子収率を示すプラズモン誘起電子移動反応を実現するためには、1)強結合系積層ナノ電極の作製と2)局在プラズモン誘起電子移動反応機構の解明が鍵となる。平成30年度は、強結合系積層ナノ電極構造の作製とその分光特性の評価、および時間分解光電子顕微鏡による位相緩和時間の測定に注力した。
位相緩和時間の計測から強結合系積層ナノ電極は、非強結合電極に比べて位相緩和時間が短いとの結果が得られ、Nat. Nanotechnol., 13, 953 (2018)に報告した。さらに、ナノ共振器長をより短くした積層ナノ構造電極では、金ナノ微粒子の局在プラズモンと反射膜として用いた金フィルムの伝搬型プラズモンとが強結合を形成し、それによって位相緩和時間を能動的に制御できることを初めて見出し、Nat. Commun., 9, 4858 (2018)に報告した。これらは本モーダル型強結合を理解する上で極めて重要な知見を与える意義ある成果であった。また、研究分担者である北大電子研の笹木教授と共同で任意の数の金ナノディスク構造を酸化チタン/金フィルム基板上に作製し、構造密度が強結合に与える影響を検討した。その結果、本モーダル型強結合においては、構造密度によって結合強度を能動的に制御できるとともに、光電変換効率の増強も可能であることを見出し、変換効率向上の糸口を掴んだことは意義深い。また、強結合が蛍光やラマン散乱といった光の放射に与える影響についても検討したところ、非強結合と比較して数倍の増強効果が得られること明らかにし、より高い光電場増強が実現できることを示した。さらに、研究分担者である北大理学研究院の村越教授と共同で光アノードにおける水の酸化反応の中間体をラマン分光により捕捉する実験系を構築した。平成30年度は、非結合系電極を用いて水の酸化反応の中間体が計測できることを実証した。

Reason

本年度の当初研究計画に加え、追加配分により生成物の分析と2光子光電子顕微鏡計測システムの構築、および構造形態と位相緩和ダイナミクスの関連性の検討を前倒しで行った。具体的には、強結合系積層ナノ構造を作製して水の酸化反応を行いLC-MSで生成物分析を行うとともに、時間分解2光子光電子顕微鏡計測系を新たに構築して正孔のエネルギースペクトルの計測とLEEM観察を組み合わせて構造形態が位相緩和ダイナミクスに与える影響を明らかにし、構造設計指針にフィードバックすることを試行した。また、LEEMを用いて合目的の構造を時間分解光電子顕微鏡計測の測定範囲内に効率的に配置するノウハウの蓄積も試みた。これらを進める中で得られた以下の2点の特筆すべき研究成果を挙げる。第一に、設計通りの構造作製が可能な電子線リソグラフィー/リフトオフ法を用いて金ナノディスク構造を酸化チタン/金薄膜上に配列した積層ナノ構造を作製し、ナノディスクの密度と強結合強度の関係を検討したところ、結合強度がナノディスクの密度の平方根に比例することを見出した点である。これは局在プラズモンのような光のモードに基づく強結合であっても、分子集合体が形成するアンサンブル強結合と同様に、その結合強度が双極子の数に依存することを示した初めての結果である。第二に、光電流発生下でのプラズモン共鳴スペクトルをin situで測定し、そのシフトから金ナノ微粒子内の電子密度が減少していること、すなわち、金ナノ微粒子から酸化チタンへの電子移動によって生じた正孔が、水の酸化で正孔が消費される速度よりも速やかにエネルギーを失い、フェルミ準位に蓄積することを初めて観測した。これは、非強結合電極では観測されなかった全く新しい結果であり、本系のメカニズム解明において重要な知見となる。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

平成31年度は、反応中間体の解析と時間分解2光子光電子顕微鏡計測のスペクトル解析を行う。過渡吸収分光を用いてプラズモン誘起電子移動やその再結合過程の分析を、過渡ラマン分光を用いて反応中間体の解析を行う。強結合の形成がプラズモン誘起電子移動に与える影響について系統的に調査する。時間分解2光子光電子顕微鏡を用い、強結合強度とプラズモンの位相緩和ダイナミクスとの関係について明らかにする。また、光電子顕微鏡改修によってこれまで限られていた近接場スペクトルの波長域を拡張したため、強結合状態の近接場スペクトルの全容を明らかにする。さらに、より複雑な近接場特性を有する四重極子プラズモンを示す構造や、プラズモン同士が強い相互作用によりハイブリダイゼーションした構造などを用いて強結合系積層ナノ構造を作製し、光電場増強と電荷分離の効率の最適値を探索する。また、新規導入したエネルギーアナライザによる熱電子・正孔のエネルギー分布の計測法を確立する。
令和2年度は、2光子光電子顕微鏡計測により強結合系積層ナノ構造の正孔のエネルギー分布を計測し、正孔の位置情報を見積もる。また、プラズモンナノ構造や、金属反射膜などの構成材料を変化させることで、反応系全体の最適化も試みる。令和3年度は、反応中間体と正孔のエネルギー分布解析から水の酸化反応の機構を考察する。令和4年度は、最適化された強結合系電極を用いて生成物分析や正孔のエネルギー分布を計測することで、研究目的をより高いレベルで達成することを目指す。
