Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
The Purpose of the research was to investigate vulnerability assessment and find the potential of vertical evacuation in the Western Coastal belt in Sri Lanka. The study aimed at achieving two objectives, such as (1) Application of Papathoma Tsunami Vulnerability Assessment model (PTVA) to calculate vulnerability of buildings of the study area; (2) Identification for potential evacuation sites and calculation of the maximum time to reach the selected evacuation sites. During this period, I was able to identify the possible tsunami evacuation centers in study area. The fieldwork was conducted to verify the result of the research. In addition, detailed fieldwork was undertaken to understand the tsunami disasters in North and East parts of Sri Lanka. The discussion was conducted with disaster management center of Sri Lanka to discuss the research outcomes of the Ph.D. research and its future implications.
