厚生労働省事業のサーベイランスシステム（JANIS）に参加した施設が、その後手術部位感染をどの程度減らしているかを、様々な因子を調整しながら検討した。その結果、手術の種類にもよるが、概ね手術部位感染の減少を得ていることが判明した。
