Outline of Final Research Achievements |
One of the most salient characteristics of Sinitic poems by Edo-period Japanese authors, particularly those of the eighteenth century, is the value placed on the imitation of High Tang poetry. While previous scholarship tended to focus solely on Ogyu Sorai, this project shed light on Kinoshita Jun'an, who preceded Sorai in extolling High Tang poetry. Jun'an likely found inspiration in the Zhuzi yulei, and sought to compose Sinitic poems that were superior in quality to those by the leading Confucian scholars of the Rinke (Hayashi house). Jun'an was likely also influenced by Korean scholars of the Choson embassy, who regarded High Tang poetry as worthy of emulation.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
