Outline of Final Research Achievements

This study examines the production techniques and especially the development process of flint bifacial knives in Egypt during the early state-forming period, which probably originated in West Asia in the late Neolithic period.
First, the characteristics of the production technique were clarified through replication experiments on the flint knives developed in Egypt, and the background to the spread of this technique in the Predynastic period was discussed. The flow from production to burial of these stone tools at Hierakonpolis, a representative site of the period, is also discussed.
Finally, with regard to West Asia, the characteristics of stone tool assemblages from the Neolithic arid zone (South Levant) are summarised.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements
