Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
My research plans for the past year were still somewhat disrupted by the pandemic but to less of an extent than in AY 2020. Some material still remains inaccessible due to archival closures and backlogs in processing or accepting requests after re-opening. Nevertheless, I have been able to fully map out all extant and directly relevant related to the British garrison of Yokohama and will proceed to acquire these in due course. These will be employed in a monograph on the subject which will be the first fully dedicated book on the topic in any language.
The edited volume is on schedule for submission to the publisher in the 3rd quarter of 2022 and publication in 2022. I was able to conduct several major research presentations at top universities and research institutes in Japan (Hyogo), the UK (University of Nottingham, Winchester University), for the European Union (EURAXESS), and at a major international conference (The 12th International Convention of Asia Scholars, ICAS 12). At the latter I organised a panel on the project, chaired it, acted as discussant, and presented a paper on the garrison. I and two of my fellow presenters also published papers directly based on the conference papers.
