| Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
The effects of the outbreak of COVID-19 have continued to complicate the completion of my plans during this past year. I have not been able to make much, if any, progress on my planned research design. The reasons have been listed below. I have continued to collect data from those students, mostly near the end of the year, that were briefly available to come on campus for a short face to face (under specific precautions to avoid further spread or possible infection)
interaction. Due to the delays in the completion of my data collection, I was only able to publish one article in a journal that was not intended for my final year of the grant. Further, due to the cancellation or presenter restrictions placed on many conferences, I have been unable to this point present my found data.

3: Progress in research has been slightly delayed.
Reason
Due to the slow recovery after the outbreak of COVID-19 this last year, I have been slightly delayed in my expected research activities. My final collection of data from face to face student interaction was greatly delayed as online interaction and coursework continued for the majority of the year. Further, all of the conferences I had planned to attend to disseminate the data were either cancelled or greatly diminished as a result of the use of an online medium.

| Strategy for Future Research Activity |
Hopefully, with the decline in COVID cases, I will be able to give presentations on my final data at conferences this year. Further, I have applied to present at two conferences in November of this year where I can share the results of my research both during the presentations and through the potential for conference publications.

| Causes of Carryover |
The majority of my funding planned for the third year in my research plan was devoted to travel and application fees for conferences both in Japan and abroad. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, I was unable to use these funds for this purpose. I have, however, applied for these conferences near the end of this next fiscal year and intend to use the funds once again to support travel and application fees for domestic and international conferences, and for any application fees incurred for submission of my research findings to potential international journal
publication.
