超新星から明らかにする大質量星の爆発直前の未知の質量放出機構

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

前年度までの研究により推定された大質量星の爆発直前の大規模質量放出の結果形成される星周物質の形状や密度などは、その発生メカニズムによって決定される。この爆発直前の大質量星の星周物質情報をもとに、爆発直前の大規模質量放出の発生メカニズムに大まかな目処をつけた。多くの場合は形成される星周物質が大まかに球対称に近い形状を持つと推定されたことから、球対称の質量放出を起こすことのできる、重力崩壊を起こす大質量星の中心付近で大規模質量放出を誘発するメカニズムが存在すると考えられる。特に爆発直前の大規模質量放出は爆発直前に恒星中心付近で引き起こされる非常に活発な元素合成と関連している可能性が高い。重力崩壊直前の非常に活発な元素合成により恒星の中心付近で強い対流が発生するため、この対流によって誘発される音波が大質量星の表面まで短時間に伝わることによって爆発直前の大質量星表面での大規模質量放出が誘発されている可能性がある。このような大規模質量放出メカニズムは大質量星中心付近で非常に活発な元素合成が起こることで働くため、爆発直前にのみ活性化されると考えられる。しかし、他にも大質量星の質量放出率を一時的に上昇させるメカニズムは存在する。例えば大質量赤色超巨星の表面は不安定になり得るため、この表面不安定性によって爆発前に一時的に大規模な質量放出が起こる可能性もある。今後、爆発直前以外に起こる大規模質量放出の大質量星進化への影響を精査する。

新型コロナウイルス感染症への対応のため、本研究に従事する時間が当初の予定よりも取れなかった。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

短い時間スケールで起きる大質量星の大規模質量放出機構が大質量星の進化の終末期だけに限らず、他の進化段階でも起こり得ないかどうかを検証し、短い時間スケールで起きる大質量星の大規模質量放出の恒星進化全体への影響を総合的に考察する。

Causes of Carryover

新型コロナウイルス感染症のため、年度内に共同研究のため招聘予定であった研究者を招聘できなかった。また、年度内に予定していた国際研究会への参加や海外研究機関への研究滞在もできなかった。次年度後半に海外研究機関への滞在や研究者の招聘を行う予定である。
