Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本研究は、構造材料の微細組織内に「特異点」を人為的に創り出し、常識を覆す革新的な力学特性を持つ「調和組織材料」をさらに高機能化する手法の開発に挑戦し、その成果を医療デバイス作製に応用することを目的としている。
社会基盤の骨格とも言える構造用金属材料には、高い強度と大きな延性が同時に要求される。しかし、これまで金属材料の強度と延性は両立しない性質であり、両者は二律背反であることが常識であった。これに対し、研究代表者は、これまでの常識を覆し「強さと延性・ねばさが両立する調和組織材料」を創り出すことに世界で初めて成功した。本研究課題の「挑戦・その1」は、「調和組織材料」という新しい概念の構造材料設計の実用化を目指して、これまで構造材料にとっては破壊の起点となるため忌避されてきた「応力集中」を、あえて積極的に活用して高機能材料創製に結びつけようとする点である。
2019年度は、2018年度に引き続き、純Ti、SUS304L/SUS316Lオーステナイト系ステンレス鋼に対し、調和組織制御、ならびに加工熱処理を行った。通常の加工熱処理、繰り返し加工熱処理、熱間変形のいずれにおいてもShellに応力集中することで再結晶することが確認された。これらの本質的な組織制御理論として、Shellへの応力集中、ShellとCoreの界面強度等が重要であることを見いだした。さらに、室温での変形における「Synergy Extra Hardening(シナジー硬化現象)」を見出した。このSynergy Extra Hardeningは純Ni調和組織材料でも確認され、普遍的な現象である可能性が高い。ミクロ・マクロの相乗効果の結果と推測され、Synergy硬化現象の詳細について、現在、重点的に研究を進めている。
