Research Abstract |
Excavations were made at the Las Shicras archaeological site, providing much information about the North Mound of the core structure of the site. The structures on top of the mound are temple architecture that dates from the early formative period (2900-1800 B.C.), and they were found to have been subjected to renewal or replacement work at least 8 times. During those processes, large amounts of shicra were used, which is one of the distinguishing features of this site. It was determined that the shicra provided a certain level of seismic resistance, but under certain conditions it appeared that this effect was lost. These findings confirmed the behavior of the shicra-containing temple in response to seismic motion, and the effect of shicra in mitigating damage.
