Research Abstract |
The origin of dissimilarity between scalar and velocity spectra in stratified turbulence has been investigated by direct numerical simulation, stratified tank experiments and rapid distortion theory when there is a passive scalar or when there are two active scalars. The results show that when the Ozmidov scale is smaller than the Kolmogorov scale, variance of the active scalar dissipates near the Kolmogorov scale.
