Research Abstract

(1)英語における動物名の人間比喩の用例を幅広く集めて、人の性質や行為を表す比喩義の一覧を作成して、それを基にメタファーの辞書を作る。
(2)哺乳類・鳥類・魚類・虫・爬虫類といった動物の種類毎に集めた人間比喩用法を比較考察して、類義・同義の動物名を抽出、類似の比喩義が生じた原因と類似性を説明する。
(3)比喩義成立の過程を歴史的に説明付けるために、中世英語を視野に入れ、特に成句・熟語が頻出する頭韻詩のメタファーを同時に研究する。
(4)上記の研究の各段階を論文にまとめ、それを編集して「英語動物名の人間比喩用法」(仮題)という研究書にまとめる。
