Research Abstract |
Intervention program for male or female perpetrator in the case of domestic violence and child abuse should contain gender-sensitive-perspective. This is because intimate violence is one of actions based on personal gender consciousness. Actions based on personal gender consciousness show up in a variety of ways and some may reflect social gender consciousness while others may contradict it. For example, a female perpetrator may behave violently being against the role as a female or a mother. The reason for that is the gender consciousness of her own is caught up in social gender consciousness which provokes her violence as a revolt against or excessive adaption to it. Intervention program needs to be implemented by focusing on changing the gender consciousness of perpetrator from the perspectives of supporting victims. To that end, what are required in Japan are to clearly define the position of social workers as professionals in the Child Abuse Prevention Law and securing the common understanding of all parties concerned on family relationship based on gender-sensitive-perspective.
