Research Abstract |
Various grasses have been used for a thatched roof in Japan instead of the Japanese pampas grass and reed. (1) The wheat straw is used in the two crops zone of wheat and rice in lowland of Kanto Kansai area. (2) The rice plant straw is used in the one crop zone of rice in lowland of Yamagata. (3) The Kariyasu grass (miscanthus tictorius) is used in the mountain area of Hokuriku. (4) The cedar bark is used instead of the Japanese pampas grass in the forestry zone.
