Research Abstract |
To investigate the effects of early life stress on the functional change of GIRK channel in developing brain, rat pops were given maternal deprivation (MD) stress for 1h a day from postnatal day (PND) 2 to 14 or for 3 to 4h a day from PND2 to 9. As a result, the 5-HT-induced GIRK current (I_<5-HT>) was increased in hippocampal neurons. GIRK2 expression level was decreased in the hippocampus but not in prefrontal cortex and raphe nucleus. Anxiety level index in behavioral experiment was decreased. These suggest that MD stress affects the function of GIRK channel in the hippocampus.
