Outline of Final Research Achievements |
Articular cartilage has poor capability of healing when damaged. Yet, there have been various attempts for cartilage regeneration, there still no ideal treatments were established. Current major treatment for damage joints are replacing the damaged joints to metal based artificial joint replacement. The purpose of the study is to develop a cell based artificial joint for entire cartilage surface regeneration by using our scaffold-free-cell-construct-building technology. With use of rabbit mesenchymal stem cell, we build thick curved cell only layer by 3mm thickness on the pre-3D-desinged Alfa-TCP construct. The pilot transplantation showed good and supportive result. Though it requires some optimizations, this approach is promising for joint regeneration.
