Outline of Annual Research Achievements

高度な配列が制御された高分子の合成のみならず,特に配列由来の特性創出で大きな進展が得られた。例えば側鎖がシクロペンチル基,ヒドロキシエチル基のアクリルアミドからなる交互共重合体とイソプロピル基側鎖のアクリルアミドのホモポリマーを結合させた三元共重合体を精密に合成することに成功した。この水溶液は低温では透明で,温度を上げるにつれ,20度付近で濁り始めるが,さらに温度を上げると少し透明になってからさらに濁るという奇妙な温度応答性を示した。同じ組成の配列非制御共重合体との比較から配列特異的な温度応答性であることがわかった。この成果をまとめた論文はJACSに受理され,高い評価を得た。
また,かさ高くて重合後に変換できるメタクリレートを設計・合成した。このモノマーのかさ高さと電子的な効果によって,アクリレートとのラジカル共重合が特異的に交互共重合で進行し,重合後にメタノールと反応させることで,メタクリル酸メチルとアルキルアクリレートとの交互共重合が得られることを明らかにした。ブチルアクリレートとの交互共重合体は,同じ組成の配列非制御共重合体に比べて配列特異的に自己修復性を示すことを示した。この成果をまとめた論文はAngewandte Chemie誌に受理され,Hot Paperに選出されるほど注目された。
交互配列制御による分解性高分子の開発にも成功した。光に反応して脱保護されるオルトニトロベンジルを有するビニルエーテルを設計・合成し,このモノマーとベンジルアルデヒドの交互カチオン重合制御に成功した。得られたポリマーに365nmの光を照射すると水酸基に変換されビニルアルコールユニットに変換され,不安定なヘミアセタール結合でつながった高分子になるため,分解し,高速に低分子量化できることがわかった。この成果をまとめた論文はAngewandte Chemie誌に受理され,高い評価を得た。
