Outline of Final Research Achievements

we could reveal postwar repatriate as a social phenomenon that had continued after the war. Firstly, we quantitatively examined change of social and occupational status on the repatriates in Okinawa. Secondly, we qualitatively discussed the cases of repatriates. Furthermore, we comprehensively clarified post-war Okinawa under the U.S. military occupation with the new flamework of repatriate. Our research is one of few comprehensive approaches which studied repatriate quantitively and qualitatively.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

本研究では、引揚を戦後に続く社会現象として捉えることができた。戦前から戦後にかけての時間軸を設けて引揚者の階層移動を析出した定量研究として、また米軍統治下の沖縄社会を引揚というフレームを通じてとらえ直した新たな沖縄現代史として、本研究は意義をもっている。また定量的研究と定性的研究を併せた引揚の総合的な実証研究として新しい試みとなっている。
