Outline of Final Research Achievements |
This study explores the methods of English home studying for lower-grade students of elementary schools. It investigates whether these methods of home studying can have a positive impact on the students’ and parents’ interest in English learning. The survey asks the subject pairs (parent and child) to work on the following methods for the duration of six months: 1) learning phonics, 2) storytelling (using English picture books), and 3) having simple English conversations with each other. The results show that studying phonics and reading English picture books everyday help subjects have more interest in English and motivate them to learn more. Methods 1) and 2) are easier to make daily habits. On the other hand, 3) is difficult to conduct every day, mainly because of students’ and parents’ anxiety about speaking English. The survey results are further examined from the perspective of “language anxiety” and “intrinsic motivation.”

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
