Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
I have completed researching and writing two chapters of a book manuscript based on research funded by my kakenhi grant. The theme of the research concerns the impact of Africa on the evolution of human rights notions and practices, with special reference to the United Nations. I have also secured a contract with Oxford University Press to publish the final monograph, tentatively entitled Africa and the Shaping of International Human Rights. Thus, in addition to conducting research for a scholarly work according to my original research plan I wrote and submitted a book proposal to a leading academic press and completed the process for approval.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
1: Research has progressed more than it was originally planned.
Reason
I had expected more difficulties securing a book contract. However, I was able to get a contract with my first choice of a publisher - Oxford University Press. My research itself has progressed more quickly than expected as I have completed researching and writing two chapters.

Strategy for Future Research Activity |
My plan for the next year, to be carried out through research at international libraries and archives, is to delve more into the colonial period in Africa, or how economic and political developments in the late 1800s to mid-1900s influenced African actions at the United Nations and elsewhere that proved crucial for enlarging the idea of human rights internationally after World War II.
