Outline of Final Research Achievements

This study examined the relationship between the education system and entrepreneurs in pre-war Japan. Quantitative analysis of entrepreneurs revealed that, in pre-war Japan, not only the formal school system but also informal education systems played an important role. The informal education systems referred to here include the apprenticeship system. This study analyzed cases of individuals who started their own businesses after completing apprenticeships, compared the roles of apprentices and salaried workers through self-help books, and examined the employment process at higher commercial schools.
