Outline of Annual Research Achievements

今年度はまず本研究で提案した非線形的畳み込みニューラルネットワークで画像認識への有効性を確認した上で、一次視覚野に特定の傾きの輪郭に反応する方位選択細胞を検証した。実験結果から、135°の理想な直線に対し、135°方位検出細胞のみに強い反応があるのに対し、同様な135°の棒に対し、上下(90°)左右(0°)、45°、 135°を問わずより全方位的に細かい方位特徴でも抽出することができた。これにより医療診断においてもガン細胞の二次元的かつ全方位的な病変部を明確・効率よく認識できることが期待される。
更に、本研究で提案した非線形的畳み込みニューラルネットワークを実装し、その動作を確認した上で、実際の画像診断に適用し、臨床医との共同研究で従来のCNNと性能やコストなどの面から比較研究を行った。
最後に、金沢医科大学からの糖尿病糸球体顕微鏡画像の生データを使い、本研究で提案した非線形的畳み込みニューラルネットワークで糖尿病性病変の診断への有効性を確認した。本研究は、それらを用いた糖尿病性腎症の早期病理変化の解明を目的とした。また、現状の病理標本は、得られた組織のうち切り出された一部を観察するのみで、大部分の病理組織標本は観察されなかったり、標本作成過程で破棄されたりすることが多かったため、本研究では病理解析の必要性を認識し具体的な目標を持った研究者と、病理標本作成に長けた病理医および臨床医との協力を得ながら、糖尿病性腎症早期病変の発生・進展機序を、立体病理像を用いて解析することが可能であることを明らかにした。
