Outline of Final Research Achievements

In order to contribute to the appropriate and sustainable development of garden tourism in Japan, this study made proposals on the management of individual historical gardens such as Kenrokuen garden, Yokokan garden and Genkyuen garden, proposals on garden tourism based on the characteristics of gardens in such regions as Ehime, Nara, Osaka prefectures and Kyoto city, and conducted historical researches on garden tourism at Saiho-ji temple in Kyoto and Kokawa-dera temple in Wakayama. The proposals and researches mentioned above are published as papers on academic jounals.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

本研究では、日本における庭園観光について、兼六園・養浩館・玄宮園を事例とした個別の庭園の運営に関する提案、愛媛県・奈良県・大阪府および京都市において今後それぞれ期待される庭園観光についての提案をおこなった。こうした提案は、従来あまり行われておらず、当該庭園の管理者や当該自治体の観光担当者に対し有益な情報を提供したものと考える。
また、西芳寺と粉河寺に関する庭園観光の歴史的研究は、従来の庭園史研究では少なかった観光の視点からの研究として今後の庭園史研究の展開に寄与するものとなったと考える。
