Outline of Final Research Achievements

This research examines whether public library holdings is related to the book market in Japan and whether public library lendings is. The analysis showed a negative impact of the number of library holdings and lendings on the book market. However, the extent of the impact is not large. In the case of the dataset for paperbacks, when corrected for missing data, the number of book sales fell by -0.11% per a copy in holdings, and fell by -0.12% per lending. In case of the dataset for the general books, when corrected for missing data, the number of book sales fell by -0.10% per a copy in holdings, and fell -0.10% per lending. However, the true estimates need to be re-examined because the amount of correction for missing data is large.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements
