Outline of Final Research Achievements |
Through this study, it became clear that various phonetic means are used in media acting voice to achieve gender expression. A comparison of the voice of the same voice actress in female and male roles revealed that the voice was higher than that of spontaneous female speech in the female roles and closer to that of spontaneous female speech in the male roles. However, whispers were used more effectively in the male roles. The second and third formants of vowels tended to be higher in the female roles than in the male roles. In intonation at the end of sentences, intonation of rise were used more frequently in female roles, even in non-interrogative sentences, while in male roles, they were used according to the character of the role. As described above, the skillful manipulation of various phonetic means embodied gender expression through advanced acting.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
