Outline of Final Research Achievements

The purpose of this study was to investigate cultural exchange between the Ryukyu Kingdom and Japan. The subjects were Waka and Wabun written by Ryukyuan in the Edo period. We interpreted Waka and Wabun, and analyzed the influence of Japan upon the Ryukyu Kingdom.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

本研究では、これまであまり本格的に研究がなされることのなかった琉球士族による和歌・和文をとりあげた。和歌・和文に記された内容からは、近世の琉球と薩摩との交流や、当時の社会や文化を垣間見ることもできる。従来の研究で見落とされがちであった琉球の和歌・和文に着目し、それらの内容を紹介するとともに、琉球における和歌の受容のあり方の一端を提示したのが本研究の意義と言えよう。
