Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
This projects aims to understand the molecular control of haustorial number in parasitic plant. Mutant characterization of P. japnicum hhd2 mutant producing more haustoria showed that haustorium number is controlled by auxin transporter HHD2 through regulation of auxin level at root tip. Further analysis showed that ROS is important modifier for the control of hasutorium number at downstream of HHD2. In addition, mutant screening of P. japonicum producing more haustoria was conducted as continuous work from last year and eventually identified a single mutant producing stable phenotype. This research is the first step toward understanding the regulation of haustorium number by parasitic plants and builds foundation for molecular pathway of haustorium formation.
