Outline of Final Research Achievements |
In order to elucidate the phylogenetic position of the Awaji dialect and reconsider the divisions of the Western Japanese dialects, we conducted fieldwork in Western Japan and collected documents of Western Japanese dialects. Regarding the Awaji dialect, it seems closely related to Shikoku dialects, and they are probably genealogically close to the Wakayama dialect. The dialects of the Chugoku region are considered to share some unique innovations. Regarding dialect divisions, as the current hypothesis, 1. Central Kinki, 2. Peripheral Kinki (including Shikoku), 3. Chugoku (including Umpaku) are assumed, but the Chugoku division is controversial. Besides, we also conducted a synchronic analysis of Western Japanese dialects. In particular, we found the deaccentuation by the sentence final particle "ga" in the Nankoku dialect of Kochi Prefecture, and conducted a detailed investigation of its scope.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
