Outline of Final Research Achievements

The purpose of this study was to examine how the diversification of students that has accompanied the quantitative expansion of college education is linked to college dropout. The original research plan was substantially modified to examine dropout mechanisms in terms of psychological and cultural frictions among students from lower social background, who historically have not been the typical group of students entering college. The results showed that when the dispersion of student groups within a university is small, there is no effect of student interactions on dropout intentions; rather, the risk of dropping out due to psychological and social factors increases when the father is a typical student group with a high educational background; and the frictional perspective is not appropriate because dropouts do not have clear expectations or stances toward college education.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements
