Outline of Annual Research Achievements

My results last year showed that urine promotes the growth of bacteria. This year I successfully established an animal model of incontinence-associated dermatitis by the combination of urine and bacteria. After exposure for three days to urine and bacteria animals developed an IAD-like persistent redness, characterized by increased infiltration of inflammatory cells, skin barrier disruption and bacteria invasion to the epidermis. These findings have been presented at domestic and international conferences. For this research, I was awarded the Young Investigator Award by the Japanese society for Wound Healing.
