| Research Abstract |
本研究では、1)これまでほとんど直接観測が行われておらずモデルにも組み込まれていない北太平洋亜寒帯海域千島列島・オホーツク海、アリューシャン・ベーリング海域、及び黒潮域における海洋鉛直混合を直接観測し大きな潮汐混合を実証し、2)大きな混合が生じるメカニズムを明らかにし、3)混合過程が水塊形成・変質・海流・物質循環・生態系に及ぼす影響を評価すること、及び、4)大きな鉛直混合が潮汐の18.6年振動に連動して変動することに起因する海洋・気候長周期変動について観測データやモデルを用いてその存在と変動過程を明らかにすること、を目的として研究を行っている。
