| Research Abstract |
The present study investigated historical changes in the awareness of the female body during the process of marginalization(deterioration in socialstatus) of women in Japan's history focusing on five main aspects : medicine, sanitation, religion, geography, and childbirth/menstruation. Perspectives on the female body in traditional and modern medicine, the significance of women's roles in modern health policies, transitions in the recognition of women in Buddhism and Shinto, and the formation of community responses to impurity associated with bleeding were clarified.
