Research Abstract |
First, by analyzing spam-emails, novels dealing with intimate relationships, and natural conversation, we have demonstrated that Japanese women's and men's languages are used to construct sexual identities conforming to heteronormativity. Second, we have studied linguistic performances of sexual identities in mass media and delineated how the performed identities have been historically transformed. Third, we have published the Japanese translation of Language and Sexuality. Fourth, we have presented the results of these studies at many international conferences.
