Research Abstract |
The purpose of this study is to test in the framework of the expectancy-value theory the hypothesis that the increase of the values (importance,interest,utility) of language learning reduces relatively cost and that the motivation is maintained and reinforced. Results of the survey in Japan and foreign countries show that for the Japanese learner of French, the score of cost is high while the scores of the other values are low. Our study reveals also that to make learners recognize the importance of French learning we need to focus on its social factors.
