| Research Abstract |
北西太平洋の古い海洋プレート上で発見された「プチスポット火山(Hirano et al.,2006)」は、海洋プレートの破砕域に沿って地下深部のメルトが噴出する新しいタイプの火山である。プチスポット火山のマグマは噴出する際に、海洋プレート中の火道の壁岩を捕獲しており、これらの捕獲岩は、北西太平洋プレート物質そのものであることが考えられる。この火山活動の調査を通じ、本研究では、古い海洋プレート構造・進化過程の解明、プチスポット火山噴火・メルトの形成メカニズムの解明を試みる。本研究では、そのプチスポット火山海域における
(1)地球物理学的・地質学的調査および岩石試料採取を実施する。
(2)試料の化学分析・物性計測を行い、その値などから見積もる地下深部での岩石物理化学データを得る。
(3)得られたデータを照合・解析することで、海洋プレート(リソスフェア)の実体解明に向けた取り組みを行う。
