Research Abstract

アジアを中心とした東ユーラシア地域の霊長類の進化史と分布域の変遷を、全地球規模のグローバルな気候変動と植生変化の背景を基にして検討している。具体的には、東ユーラシアの化石霊長類の産出地点の地理的情報、古生物学的な相対的年代、地質学的な絶対年代などのデータを組み合わせることにより、霊長類の拡散時期と経路を決定する。また草食性哺乳類の化石歯や骨から抽出した炭素・酸素・窒素などの安定同位体の分析により、当時の古環境と古食性を復元する。このような多面的な情報を組み合わせることにより、どのような古環境の変遷を背景に霊長類の分布域が変化していったのかを、複合的な観点から検討する。
