Research Abstract |
A new 3-D analytic tool based on the magnetic sensor signals in a nuclear fusion device has been developed to identify the magnetic field outside the plasma and the plasma boundary profile. The boundary integral equations in terms of 3-D vector potential for magnetic field sensors and flux loops are solved simultaneously. The rotational symmetry of the plasma is incorporated into the formulation to reduce the number of unknowns. The magnetic field profile and the last closed magnetic surface in the Large Helical Device can be now estimated with a fairly acceptable accuracy if a large number of magnetic sensors can be located outside the plasma.
