Research Abstract

宇宙最大の爆発現象である「ガンマ線バースト」の放射機構を解明するために、ガンマ線偏光検出器(GAP)を開発する。小型ソーラー電力セイル実証機IKAROSに搭載して宇宙空間で観測を行い、年間2～4例程度の明るいガンマ線バーストの偏光度を測定する。ガンマ線偏光検出器を人工衛星に搭載することは世界初の試みとなり、ガンマ線偏光天文学という新分野を開拓する。
