Research Abstract

感染症は人類にとって古くから大きな問題であり,感染をコントロールするためには病原体に対する生体防御機構の解明は極めて重要な課題である.この問題に取り組むべく,我々は,最も初めのプロセスである病原体の侵入に対する宿主の『感知システム』に着目した.微生物特有の分子パターンを認識するパターン認識受容体(pattern recognition receptors ; PRRs)はI型インターフェロン(IFN)や炎症サイトカインなどの遺伝子発現を誘導し,自然免疫応答を活性化するのみならず,適応免疫応答の強力な活性化を誘導することにつながり, 感染免疫の重要な"starting switch"である.このPRRsによる認識機構や下流のシグナル経路を解明することにより,感染をコントロールするための有用な標的を見出すことが期待される
本研究では,自然免疫系におけるDNAセンサーを中心とした細胞質核酸認識機構およびそれを介して活性化される自然免疫応答を規定するシグナルの制御を明らかにする研究を推進することによって,特にウイルス感染の治療や予防に有用な新しい分子基盤を提示し,感染症のコントロールに貢献することを目指す
