Research Abstract |
Focusing on the Kochi dialect which has two kinds of conjectural(/presumptive) forms, I analyzed the change of guess expression forms using grammatical description and a natural discourse corpus. As a result, on a young generation, the conjectural forms lost a restriction of connecting with a verb or an adjective, and were simplified. On the other hand, the new usage of guess expressions split into some different functions which are related to discourse.
